Kotak Mojo Platinum Credit Card Review

Kotak Mojo Platinum credit card is one of the many entry level credit cards from Kotak Mahindra Bank that fares poorly when compared with other cards in the same segment. The card carries a joining and annual fee of Rs 1000 each with a compensatory spend-based waiver criteria but the primary benefits that come in the form of reward points, are low. The best feature of the card is its lounge access program.

Kotak Mahindra Mojo Platinum Credit Card Benefits & Features

The benefits of the card comes on online spends, 8 annual complimentary visits and a milestone benefit for the first year. Explore in depth below.

Joining & Annual Fees Waiver

The card carries a joining fee of Rs 1,000 but that can be waived off if you spend Rs 30,000 within the first 90 days of card issuance. The joining fee waiver is provided in the fourth month to eligible cardholders.

Likewise, there is a Rs 1,000 annual fee that can be waived on spending Rs 1 lakh annually.

Fuel Surcharge Waiver

You get a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions valued between Rs 500 to Rs 3,000 across all fuel stations in the country. The fuel surcharge waiver benefit is capped at Rs 3,500 per anniversary year. Note that fuel spends don’t earn you any Mojo points.

Railway Surcharge Waiver

You get 1.8% surcharge waiver on IRCTC and 2.5% on Railway booking counters when you pay using Kotak Mojo Platinum credit card. This benefit has a limit of Rs 500 per anniversary year.

Complimentary Airport Lounge Access

You get 8 complimentary domestic Airport lounge visits in a year, limited to 2 per quarter. The lounge access program is available through DreamFolks Airport lounges within India.

The lounge access program is good enough for an entry-level card and may prove advantageous since there is no spend-based criteria to avail this offer.

Milestone Benefits:

For the first year, you get 2,500 Mojo points on meeting the spend criteria of Rs 75,000. That’s a 1.33% reward rate but it’s for first year only. But here’s the main thing, if you are going to spend Rs 75,000 quarterly, there are better cards to do that with in the market that offer you better corresponding rewards and benefits.

Kotak Mojo Platinum Credit Card Rewards

Here are the reward Mojo Platinum card offers:

  • 2.5 Mojo points per Rs 100 spent online
  • 1 Mojo point for every Rs 100 spent on all other spends except on fuel and cash withdrawals.

The reward rate comes to around 1% for online spends and around 0.4% for other spends. The value of 1 Mojo point is 40 paisa which is better than few other entry-level cards in the market. But the reward rate itself is very low.

Rewards Redemption:

  • You can redeem the reward (Mojo) points on the Kotak Rewards portal on travel & flights (domestic), mobile recharges, vouchers (including Myntra, Flipkart, Swiggy etc.), and to shop products available in the catalog.
  • 1 Mojo point is worth Rs 0.40 (40 paisa).

Kotak Mojo Platinum Credit Card Review

Whether this card is right for you comes down to one question: how much do you intend to spend with this card?

If you’re looking to do some serious spending with your credit card, then this is probably not the best option for you. The reward rate is pretty low, the quarterly milestone benefit demands high spending, surcharge waiver offers are pretty standard and joining/annual fees are also on the higher side for a entry level card. The only saving grace seems to be the complimentary airport lounge access program that has no spend based criteria. It would’ve been better if the card was LTF or carried less than Rs 500 fees.

Get it if it’s offered and you are not expecting much rewards or cashback on your spends and intend to use lounge access program. Get it if you don’t have a credit card yet, or have one but want to improve your credit history and get you better card offers in the future. Otherwise, look at other options.
