Kotak Zen Signature Credit Card Benefits & Features

The main benefits lean towards travel and shopping categories with its complimentary airport and railway lounge visits, and a 1.6% reward rate on shopping. Explore in-depth below.

Rewards

  • Earn 10 Zen points for every Rs 150 spent on shopping (Apparels, Lifestyle goodds, departmental stores and jewellery), online or offline.
  • Earn 5 Zen points for every Rs 150 spent on other spends.
  • Fuel spends are not eligible to earn you Zen points.

In a nutshell, the Kotak Zen Signature card gives you around 1.6% reward rate for shopping and around 0.80% for other spends.

Milestone Benefit

  • Get 7,000 Zen points on spending Rs 3 lakh in a year
  • Get 15,000 Zen points on spending Rs 6 lakh in a year.
  • You’ll be eligible for only one milestone benefit. For example, if you spend Rs 6 lakh, you will get 15,000 Zen points (not 7,000 + 15,000).

Each Zen point is worth 0.25 paisa. So, you get Rs 3,750 worth reward points from the milestone benefit when you spend Rs 6 lakh in a year. That’s a really low reward rate of around 0.62% on the milestone benefit program.

Rewards Redemption

  • The value of 1 Zen point is Rs 0.25 (25 paisa) for all redemption options.
  • You can redeem the reward (Zen) points on the Kotak Rewards portal on travel & flights (domestic), mobile recharges, vouchers (including Myntra, Flipkart, Swiggy etc.), and to shop products available in the catalog.
  • Kotak also provides ‘Pay by Points’ option where you can fund your purchase through reward points directly at the merchant.

Complimentary Airport Lounge Access

Leaning more towards a premium level offering, the card gives you complimentary access to domestic as well as international airport lounges.

  • Domestic: You get 2 complimentary domestic lounge visits in a quarter ( 8 per year) through DreamFolks lounges in India.
  • International: You get 3 complimentary access per calendar year to international lounges (outside India) through Priority Pass.

However, there are conditions to avail the international lounge visits.

Conditions:

  • Only the primary cardholder is eligible for the complimentary lounge access. The guests will be charged US $32 per person per visit.
  • You have to make a minimum of 4 purchase transactions in prior 12 month window to qualify for the complimentary international lounge visits.
  • After crossing the complimentary limit of 3 visits, you will be charged US $32 per visit per person.
  • You don’t need a Priority Pass anymore to access the complimentary lounge access program. Simply swipe your Zen Signature card. However, make sure to enable international transactions.

Other Benefits & Features:

  • Welcome Offer: You get 1,500 Zen points worth Rs 375 upon payment of joining fee . This offer is not applicable on the free card.
  • Annual Fee Waiver: The card carries an annual fee of Rs 1,500 that can be waived on retail spending of Rs 1.5 lakh in a year.
  • Fuel Surcharge Waiver: The Zen Signature card gets you a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions ranging between Rs 500 to Rs 3,000 across all fuel stations in India. The fuel surcharge benefit is capped at Rs 3,500 per anniversary year. Also, fuel spends do not earn you reward points.
  • Railway Surcharge Waiver: The cardholders get 1.8% railway surcharge waiver on tickets booked through IRCTC and 2.5% on tickets booked through Railway counters. Maximum railway surcharge waiver limit in a year is Rs 500.
  • Priority Attend: It’s a feature that Kotak provides on many of its credit cards. Basically, instead of calling the Bank’s helpline and waiting for an eternity, you can simply SMS “KASSIST” to 5676788 and the Bank’s representatives call you within 2 hours. It comes in handy when you are trying to resolves some issues.

Our Take

Kotak Zen Signature credit card sits between the Bank’s other entry-level and premium offerings. The benefits and privileges are in line with the fees. The lounge access program is good enough but the benefits such as fuel & railway surcharge waivers are something you can get on cards with lower fees. However, it’s the reward rate that tells of a credit card’s real lifeline. And in this case, Zen Signature barely makes it with a decent enough median reward rate of 1.2%.

A decent welcome offer and lower bar for the milestone benefit would’ve been better to make it a attractive offering.

If your primary usage revolves around shopping and travel with this card, then you can consider it. Otherwise, it’s better to explore other options.
